Charleston, October 20, 2017 - Safe Ports has been awarded a $24.1M Contract to operate warehousing and distribution services at the US Defense Logistics Agency Defense Supply Center in Richmond, VA..
The five-year contract requires Safe Ports to manage and execute efficient and effective receiving, storage, inventory, packaging, Care of Supplies in Storage (COSIS), stock control, stock selection, issue processing, packing, shipping, and distribution of repair parts and secondary items in support of DLA’s on-base, local, and worldwide customers.
“The Defense Logistics Agency is our nation’s combat logistics support agency, providing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and other federal agencies with all of the consumable items our forces need to operate,” said Lucy Duncan, President and CEO of Safe Ports. “This distribution center serves as the DLA’s primary site for hazardous material, as well as the worldwide physical distribution of all maps, charts and other geodetic material. We are extremely proud to have this opportunity to provide our services to the DLA in Richmond.”
This is Safe Ports’ fourth contract supporting DLA Distribution operations worldwide. The company is the incumbent contractor for management and operations of the DLA Distribution Center in Guam and previously managed and operated the DLA Distribution Center in Kandahar, Afghanistan and DLA’s MRE Cold Storage Facilities in Illinois. Safe Ports was awarded the 2016 DLA Depot of the Year in Guam and the 2013 DLA Small Business of the Year and Woman Owned Small Business of the Year awards.
