David L. Grange was named chief executive officer of PPD in July 2009 after serving on the company’s board of directors since 2003.
Prior to joining PPD, Grange led the McCormick Foundation for 10 years, most recently as president and chief executive officer and earlier as executive vice president and chief operating officer. The foundation, one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States, works to advance the ideals of a free, democratic society by investing in children, communities and country and has granted more than $1.3 billion to organizations in local communities across the nation.
Grange served 30 years in the U.S. Army with his final position being Commanding General of the First Infantry Division. During a highly decorated military career, Grange was a Ranger, Green Beret, Aviator, Infantryman and member of other special operating units. While serving in the Pentagon, he was deputy director and director of Army Current Operations, Readiness and Mobilization responsible for coordinating military support within the United States in response to natural disasters and domestic preparedness against acts of terrorism.
Grange holds a bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College and a master’s in public service from Western Kentucky University. In addition, he is the recipient of honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from both Johnson & Wales University and from Aurora University.
Grange serves on the boards of the Marshall Fund, the Eshelman Foundation, the Gettysburg Foundation, NYS4VETs, the Society of the First Infantry Division, and the Corporate Council of the Vietnam Memorial Foundation. |
